The Motability Scheme is designed to help the disabled and those who care for the disabled get around a little bit easier. If youre entitled to the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Loving Allowance or the War Pensioners Mobility Supplement, you should be able to get a car through the Motability scheme. This is a government back scheme and is here to ensure that having a disability doesn’t mean you have to take away your freedom. It’s not just the cost of the car that’s covered with this scheme; here are just some of the other extras that come with your new car.
The Motability Scheme doesn’t just present you with an old banger and expect you to get on with it. Not only do you get to pick a brand new car, you can also trade it in for another new car every three years. Your brand new car will come with most adaptations needed to accommodate most disabilities. Motability are there to ensure your car is as comfortable and safe as possible
Disabled vehicles will also come with free fully comprehensive insurance. If youve acquired any no claims bonuses these will still be carried forward and added to any your accrue whilst under the Motability insurance so if you decide to leave you can take them with you.
The basic maintenance of your car will also be taken care of by the Motability Scheme. A full breakdown service comes as standard with the car. Not only are all your servicing needs covered by the Scheme, but if anything needs fixing this will also usually be sorted for you too. The Scheme also covers things like window replacements and stone damage as well as routine tyre replacement too.
Only things like perishables and day to day essential fluids and liquids are you responsibility. This would include petrol or engine oil and any electrical gadgets you wanted in the car. And parking tickets ad speeding fines will also be your responsibility too. The normal time limit on the car contract is three years during which time youll be able to do up to 60,000 miles.
